Barcelona announced that they have activated Antoine Griezmann's €120m release clause
The waiting is finally over and it's official now, the French star and world cup winner Antoine Griezmann is now a Barcelona player after the Catalan activated his €120 million release clause.
Barcelona was keen on signing the 28-years-old in summer 2018 but after a long drama, the player have announced on 'The Choice' program hosted by Gerard Pique that he's chose to stay with the Roje Blancos.
However, that choice didn't go too well for him because just after few months, he decided to leave the club and join La Liga champions as a pre-agreement was already made between the French and the BlueGrana's directors since last March according to Atletico Madrid's CEO.
Griezmann is set to sign a five-years contract with Barcelona with a release clause of €800 million and will earn a yearly wage of €18 million which is below to what he used to earn with Atletico, €22 million.
The player himself stated since early this summer that he knows where he will be playing next season and that sacrifices must be made, with that we could say that a reduce in salary is one of those sacrifices the French forward mentioned.
Griezmann joined Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad in July 2014 for a fee of €30 million, since then he made 257 appearances with Atletico Madrid, scored 133 goals and assisted 50, won 1 Spanish Super Cup, 1 Europa League and 1 UEFA Super Cup.
It's still yet unknown how the Camp Nou's reaction would be towards Griezmann as the fans might still be angry at the player for what he did last summer by manipulating the fans and finally deciding to stay with Atletico.
Griezmann's last visit to the Camp Nou did not go so well either as he was booed at whenever he touched the ball. Yet after Barcelona's heavy loss at Anfield, the fans started to open up to the French as they need a new key player to bring the Champions League back to the Camp Nou.
